At the age of 12 I lost my grandfather to cancer. He didn’t tell anyone that he was feeling sick as the idea of going to the doctor made him feel uncomfortable. By the time he was noticeably ill and taken to the hospital, it was too late. He would only survive for a couple of more months. Loosing the pillar to the family changed everything drastically. Thats why my philosophy of healthcare says that us as healthcare providers to be, need to be emotionally attentive, more physically attentive to our patients. We need to educate not just family and friends but the community to ease their fears towards healthcare providers. And then we should stress the importance of prevention of serious illnesses. My grandfather always said I’d become a doctor or something in the field of health and science, and now I’m ready to prove him right.Updated: April 23, 2013 - 2:22pm - by Yvette Saliba
