My philosophy of healthcare is that we as healthcare workers should treat all patients with dignity, respect, and by giving them the most knowledgable care possible. Most importantly, I feel that no matter what race, religion, culture, or country they come from they deserve competent care. I believe that we should avoid assumptions and treat the brokenness of a person in order to make them whole again. I have experienced a patient that taught me the importance of being aware of cultural issues surrounding illness, suffering and pain. She expressed the need for prayer and religious rituals. Instead of overlooking these needs, I learned that bringing forth a holistic view of healthcare, can have tremendous benefits. My patient made a recovery that she bases on her ability to bring her cultural views into her treatment plan.
