Mama was a nurse. Mama was a consummate homemaker. She has an easy, contagious laugh. Her attention to detail was unmatched in everything she did. She was my girlfriend. I talk about her like she's no longer with us, but she still is. The dreadful Alzheimer's disease has taken Mama away, slowly. Each day I pray that her caregivers will look beyond her failing body, her blank stare, and quiet mind and remember there once was a whole person inside.
