Not long ago, a close friend of mine lost a loved one. I remember feeling useless and wishing that there was something I could do or say that would help ease the pain. The day before she left town, I spent the afternoon with her. We laughed together, cried together and reminisced together. After leaving, I still felt useless but took comfort in knowing that for a few moments, things weren’t so bad. Later that day, she texted me and thanked me for spending time with her and just being there. My philosophy of health care is simple, be a shoulder to cry on, or a hand to hold. Sometimes the best care you can give someone is to just be there.Updated: October 18, 2010 - 2:38pm - by Yvette Saliba
