My philosophy of healthcare began with my grandmother’s diagnosis of stage 4 breast cancer. Upon her diagnosis the doctors predicted she would only live six more months, but her courage and strength kept her alive for nine more years. She passed away three years ago but her experience with the healthcare industry has inspired me to come back to school and pursue my dream of becoming a nurse. Her own courage, strength, and faith were not the only things that helped her through this difficult time. It was the support and hope from her family, friends, nurses, and doctors that helped her continue her fight. Every doctors appointment, chemo treatment, and hospitalization was met with extremely hopeful and encouraging healthcare providers that never let her give up on herself and never gave up on her. I hope to one day be able to provide the same support and hope for my patients. Our lives all have meaning whether we are healthy, sick, or dying and as a future healthcare professional I want to continue to encourage my patients to see the value in their lives and provide them with a positive and hopeful experience.Updated: April 12, 2011 - 1:55pm - by Yvette Saliba
