Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences held its annual Convocation on Monday, September 13, 2010. The event took place at Calvary Assembly of God Church in Winter Park, FL. Florida Hospital College president Dr. David Greenlaw was the speaker at Convocation and provided insight and renewed emphasis about the College’s mission of Healthcare as Ministry. Faculty in full regalia preceded a procession of the students by professional program as they paraded past all in attendance.
Dr. Greenlaw spoke about the philosophy of Healthcare as Ministry and its congruency with the mission of Florida Hospital which is to "Extend the Healing Ministry of Christ."
"Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences was established for a number of reasons. One was that Florida Hospital, a Seventh-day Adventist institution, wanted to have a college that would be able to train its future clinical leaders in the milieu of understanding of Christian thought and purpose."
"Florida Hospital wanted clinical competence from people who understood the mission of their institution which was the healing ministry of Christ."
Florida Hospital College holds Convocation each fall to mark the beginning of the new school year. The Convocation provides the students, faculty, and staff an opportunity for a renewal of purpose and mission for the upcoming year. Dr. Greenlaw closed his address with the following statement:
"We want you to leave with an understanding that you are a part of an environment that God seeks to create in His universe where humans care about humans. We promise to you that we will do our very best to provide the environment where you can learn to do those things and be that way. That's our commitment to you and we trust that you will become change agents for healthcare for the next generation."
A President's Reception was held immediately following Convocation. The reception was held at the Orlando Art Museum.
